Having enough to eat. Something most of us don’t worry about. Maybe when we’re rushed from time to time. However for some our own community’s families: it’s a daily struggle. It’s true, the West Island is home for many wealthy families but also for many for whom filling the plates and lunch boxes is a challenge faced daily.

The West Island Mission is a non-profit organization based in Pointe-Claire that supports local families in need with quality food, school supplies and a Christmas basket program.

Last September, under the dynamic leadership of their president: Michel Larouche, the hundreds of players of the Pierrefonds Old Timers league started a 2-month long fundraiser effort to collect food and funds for the WI Mission. Many players dug in their personal pockets or their business to offer prices that were raffled off.

Community involvement by Pure plomberie

A few days ago, players from Pierrefonds and Ile Bizard doning the colors of local businesses Pure plomberie and Groupe Lipari squarred off for the second of two games nicknamed The Battle of the River to raise funds for the West Island mission.

The end results and tally of all combined efforts:

Over 660 kilograms of food were collected and 2000$ were raised !! The gamesheets have yet to be published!

We often wonder how can we help locally as we know there are needs out there… Anyone can get involved and your company can help too: The west Island mission now overseens seven community gardens that grow fresh produce that get distributed to the needy. . Those gardens can be found in Pointe-Claire, DDO, Pierrefonds on the lots of local businesses that support their efforts: MedtronicCummins and MPB Communications.

For us at Pure plomberie, helping out (customers causes or youth) comes naturally.

You too can support the WI Mission and their efforts, donate here.
